Learn about Sports 4 All's Blackmores Health and Hoops clinic in Stanhope.
Health and hoops is led by past and present NBL stars, along with passionate health and wellbeing brand ambassadors from Blackmores, both driven by the belief that Good Health Changes Everything.
As part of an employee initiative, Blackmores employees participate in Health and Hoops clinics, alongside NBL stars, to drive their desire in further creating healthy change.
On May 10, 2024, over 50 young participants with diverse learning abilities and neurodiversity came together for the Sports 4 All Gala Day in Stanhope, supported by 8 Blackmores volunteers. Kids aged 13–17, representing five schools, competed in games, learned new skills, and shared moments of encouragement.
Led by Basketball NSW coaches and NBL star Adam Gibson, the day featured warm-ups, a shootout competition, and an All-Stars match against the Blackmores team. Each participant received a basketball and tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters, adding to the excitement. This clinic exemplified Blackmores’ commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowering communities through sport.
"At Sports 4 All, our mission is to create a diverse and inclusive sporting landscape that empowers individuals of all abilities. We are committed to removing barriers and promoting equal access to sports, fostering a culture of respect, support, and unity,” Director of Sport and Recreation at Sports 4 All said.
“Through our collaborations with state and national sporting bodies like the NBL and Basketball NSW, and corporate partners such as Blackmores, we aim to significantly enhance our impact and expand our reach. The inclusion of Matraville High School and Roland Hassle School in our Gala Day is a testament to the growing success and potential of our developmental program."
About Sports 4 All
Sports 4 All, in partnership with key stakeholders, recently celebrated the successful conclusion of its pilot program during a Gala Day at the Blacktown Leisure Centre on 10th May. This event highlighted the culmination of months of dedicated effort aimed at promoting inclusivity in sports among secondary school students with intellectual disabilities. The initiative underscores the organisation's commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants.
The pilot program began in February, focusing directly on engaging secondary schools in the Blacktown City area—Doonside Technical College, Chifley Bidwill, and Mt Druitt. Each school enthusiastically participated in the initiative, demonstrating the community's strong support and eagerness for inclusive sports programs. Building on the success of these initial engagements, the Gala Day expanded to include additional schools from the surrounding area Matraville High School and Roland Hassle School, further broadening the impact and reach of the program.
This school-based program was pivotal in refining Sports 4 All’s approach, providing valuable insights into how sports can be made more accessible and enjoyable for students with intellectual disabilities. These insights are critical for scaling the program and enhancing its effectiveness into 2024 and beyond.
